Family Portraits By the Lake
If you plan on taking a Maine family vacation on the lake, perhaps beautiful Big Wood Lake in Jackman Maine, you can get some great portraits of your kids.

Remember to go out by the lake early in the morning or near sunset. You'll have some nice directional sun. Position your kids so they have the sun hitting on one side of the face and just slightly on the opposite side. Stand back enough to get their whole bodies but not too far. Make sure you have focused on their faces and not the background.

Look at the top of their heads and make sure that there aren't any trees coming out of it. Try to frame them with the water. The best way to do this is by standing a little above them. Level your camera lens at about the top of their heads and then tilt it ever so slightly downward. Turn on the fill flash and snap your picture.

You should now have a beautiful image of your children framed against the lake water.
